Oncor FAQs
What does Oncor do?
Think of Oncor as the company that keeps the power grid running in your area. They're a transmission and distribution utility (TDU) - which means they maintain the poles and wires, deliver electricity to your home, and get your lights back on during outages. While you can choose who sells you electricity, Oncor is the one making sure it reaches your home safely.
What is the difference between Oncor and TXU?
Here's the key difference: Oncor owns and maintains the power lines and equipment that deliver electricity to your home. They're your utility company. TXU Energy, on the other hand, is a retail electricity provider - they sell you the actual electricity. Think of Oncor as the delivery truck and TXU as the store where you shop.
Is Oncor owned by TXU?
No - let's clear up this common mix-up. Oncor and TXU are completely separate companies. TXU Energy is owned by Vistra Corp, while Oncor operates independently under Sempra Energy's ownership. You'll see both names on your bill, but they're different companies handling different parts of your electricity service.
