AboutWills Point
Did You Know?
Wills Point was founded in 1873 when the Texas and Pacific Railway came through the area, named after Dr. William Wills who owned the land where the railroad established a depot. The town quickly became a major shipping point for cotton and agricultural products from the fertile East Texas blackland prairie, transforming from wilderness to a thriving railroad town in just a few years.
In 2020, Wills Point completed a major downtown revitalization project that restored several historic buildings along Commerce Street and created a new city plaza. The $2.3 million project included new sidewalks, period lighting, and landscaping that has attracted new businesses and restaurants to the historic downtown core.
Country music star Kacey Musgraves grew up just outside Wills Point and got her start performing at local venues in the area during her teenage years. She often credits her East Texas roots and small-town upbringing for influencing her songwriting style, and she still maintains connections to the community where she developed her musical talents.
Wills Point is home to one of the last remaining original Texas and Pacific Railway depots in East Texas, built in 1881 and still standing today. The depot now serves as a museum and community center, and railroad enthusiasts travel from across the country to see this perfectly preserved example of 19th-century railroad architecture that helped build Texas.
Every October, Wills Point hosts the annual Bluebird Festival, celebrating the Eastern Bluebird which has made a remarkable comeback in the area thanks to local conservation efforts. The festival features bluebird house building contests, nature walks, and educational programs, drawing bird watchers and nature lovers from throughout Texas who come to see the hundreds of bluebird nesting boxes that line the rural roads around town.

How to Find the Best Energy Plan in Wills Point
#1 rule: Usage is king!
Knowing the amount of energy you will use month-to-month is the ideal way to find a deal on energy in Wills Point. Why should you care?
The rate electricity providers advertise for an exact monthly usage (typically 1000 kWh).
Every plan uses a different equation for how your monthly statement is determined, and your monthly bill will change according to how much electricity you consume in a month.
Unless you match the exact advertised usage each month, you will pay a "price per kWh" different than the one you saw advertised when you ordered.
Fortunately, there's a better way to pick your electricity plan.
Calculating your expected monthly bill based on estimated monthly usage, then comparing plans by total monthly cost is the best way to shop for the lowest rate for your household.
Better yet, if you have a year of usage history for your home, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter and is the ideal way to determine the perfect energy rate plan for your home.
Compare Power does all this math for you instantly. What takes hours inside a spreadsheet is now solved in a few moments.
We put you in the driver's seat, taking what would amount to hours of investigation, spreadsheets, and computations across hundreds of offers, and guide you step-by-step to the energy rate plan that's best for your household's usage.
We clarify the details, disclosing all fees, so you'll know exactly where your money is going and what to anticipate on your bill.
We then assist you in signing up with your selected power provider without leaving our website.
The bottom line is you should understand your expected or historical usage before picking the right energy plan for your home.
If you don't know your usage, estimate
Suppose you recently purchased a home or business or cannot obtain 12 months of usage history. In that case, you can always estimate the average energy you will use in any given month.
While not as optimal as having all the previous 12 months of usage, estimating your average usage is better than blindly picking the first plan you see advertised by an electricity provider at a specific usage that isn't what you'll consume.
Use Compare Power to shop for the best energy plan for your specific usage.

Switching Electricity Companies in Wills Point
Switching is good. Market conditions are constantly changing, so it is essential to shop for a lower rate yearly when your contract expires.
Your existing electricity company will typically raise your energy rate once your contract expires. If you do not take action, you'll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly more than the plan you signed up for.
Before renewing your contract, check the rates of competing energy providers.
Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your electricity bill.
Switching is easy:
- You don't have to call your current company to cancel (no "break-up call")
- No one comes to your home
- There is no disruption in your power supply
- It takes just minutes
When you decide to switch, your new electricity company will handle everything for you, including terminating service with your previous company.
Your lights stay on when you switch. Electricity in Wills Point is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.
The wires and poles that deliver power to your home do not change when you switch electricity companies. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.
You can pick any date up to 14 days before your current contract's end date without an "early termination" fee. That's Texas Law.
If you're still under contract, find out how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most companies up to 6o days in advance.
The amount saved each month by switching to a different electricity company may outweigh the one-time fee to get out of your contract early.
If you're ready to switch and want to know how to find the best plan, remember that knowing your usage is the best way to find the cheapest price.
You will want to find your past usage for the past 12 months to determine the best plan with the lowest rate for your household.
