AboutValley Mills
Did You Know?
Valley Mills was founded in 1872 when the Missouri, Kansas & Texas Railroad established a depot at this location along the Bosque River. The town was named for the numerous gristmills and cotton gins that operated in the fertile river valley, taking advantage of the water power and rich agricultural land that made it a natural trading center for area farmers.
In 2020, Valley Mills completed a major downtown revitalization project that restored several historic buildings along Main Street and created a new community park along the Bosque River. The project included new sidewalks, period lighting, and a walking trail that connects the downtown area to the riverfront, attracting visitors and new businesses to the area.
Valley Mills was the childhood home of Audie Murphy, America's most decorated World War II soldier who later became a Hollywood actor. Murphy lived on a sharecropper farm near Valley Mills during the Great Depression before enlisting in the Army at age 17, where he would earn the Medal of Honor and 32 other military decorations for his heroic service in Europe.
Valley Mills is home to one of the last remaining original Katy Railroad depots in Texas, built in 1881 and still standing in its original location. The depot now serves as a museum and community center, and railroad enthusiasts travel from across the country to see this perfectly preserved example of 19th-century railroad architecture, complete with original telegraph equipment and waiting room benches.
Every October, Valley Mills hosts the annual Cotton Harvest Festival, celebrating the town's agricultural heritage with a parade of vintage tractors and farm equipment dating back to the 1920s. The festival features demonstrations of traditional cotton ginning, corn shucking contests, and homemade pie competitions, drawing thousands of visitors who come to experience authentic rural Texas culture and sample locally grown produce.

How to Find the Best Energy Plan in Valley Mills
#1 rule: Usage is king!
Knowing how much energy you will consume monthly is the best way to shop for energy in Valley Mills. Why is this important?
The rate you see power companies advertising is for an exact monthly usage (typically 1000 kWh).
Every plan uses a different equation for how your monthly statement is computed, and your monthly bill will change according to how much energy you use in a month.
Unless you match the advertised usage each month, you will pay a "price per kWh" different than what you observed when you signed up.
Fortunately, there's a better way to select your power rate.
Calculating your expected monthly bill based on expected monthly usage, then comparing rates by the total monthly bill is the best way to shop for the best rate.
Better still, if you have a year of usage history for your household, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the ideal way to determine the correct energy rate plan for your home.
Compare Power does all the complicated math for you instantly. What takes hours on a spreadsheet is now done in a few seconds.
We put you in the driver's seat, taking what would amount to hours of investigation, spreadsheets, and computations across hundreds of plans, and guide you step-by-step to the energy plan that's best for your home's usage.
We clarify the details, disclosing the various charges, so you'll know exactly where your money is going and what to anticipate on your bill.
We then assist you in enrolling with your selected power company without leaving our service.
The bottom line is you must know your expected or historical usage before choosing the best energy plan for your home.
If you don't know your usage, estimate
Suppose you recently purchased a home or business or cannot obtain 12 months usage history. In that case, you can always estimate your average monthly energy usage.
While not as optimal as having all the previous 12 months of usage, estimating your average usage is better than blindly choosing the first plan you see advertised by an energy company at a specific usage that isn't what you'll consume.
Use Compare Power to shop for the best energy plan for your specific usage.

Switching Electricity Companies in Valley Mills
Switching is good. Market conditions are constantly in flux, so shopping for a lower price every year when your contract expires is essential.
Your existing energy company will typically raise your energy rate once your term expires. If you fail to take action, you'll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly higher than the plan you signed up for.
Before renewing your contract, shop the rates of competing electricity providers.
Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your electricity bill.
Switching is easy:
- You don't have to contact your current company to cancel (no "break-up call")
- No one comes to your home
- There is no disruption in your power supply
- It takes just minutes
When you decide to switch, your new energy provider will handle everything, including canceling service with your previous company.
Your lights stay on when you switch. Electricity in Valley Mills is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.
The wires and poles that deliver electricity to your home do not change when you switch energy companies. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.
You can pick any date up to 14 days before your contract ends without an "early termination" penalty. Texas law protects you here.
If you're still under contract, find out how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most providers up to 6o days in advance.
And even if you're well inside your contract, savings achieved on your monthly bill by switching providers may outweigh the fee of breaking your existing contract.
If you're ready to switch and want to know how to find the best plan, remember that understanding your usage is the best way to find the cheapest rate.
Keep in mind that when you get ready to switch and you want to know the most efficient way to find the right plan at the best rate, it is essential that you first understand your usage. To accomplish that, you must collect the usage history for the past 12 months.
