AboutThree Rivers
Did You Know?
Three Rivers was founded in 1913 when the San Antonio, Uvalde and Gulf Railroad established a depot at the confluence of the Atascosa, Frio, and Nueces rivers, which gave the town its name. The community grew rapidly as a shipping point for cattle ranchers and farmers in the region, becoming the commercial hub for southeastern Live Oak County during the early 20th century.
In 2020, Three Rivers completed a major downtown revitalization project that restored several historic buildings along Fourth Street and created a new community plaza. The $2.3 million project, funded through state grants and local bonds, has attracted new businesses and increased tourism to the small community by 40% over the past three years.
Country music star George Strait's grandfather owned a ranch near Three Rivers, and young George spent many summers working cattle in the area during the 1960s. Strait has often credited his time in Three Rivers with inspiring some of his most authentic cowboy songs, and he still owns property in Live Oak County today.
Three Rivers is home to one of the last remaining original Harvey House restaurants from the famous Fred Harvey chain that served railroad travelers across the American West. The restored 1913 building now serves as the town's museum and still contains the original lunch counter, cash register, and even some of the Harvey Girls' uniforms from over a century ago.
Every October, Three Rivers hosts the annual 'Confluence Festival' celebrating the meeting of the three rivers with a unique tradition where residents float handmade boats down each river simultaneously. The boats converge at the town's central bridge where they're judged for creativity, and the winning boat builder receives the 'Golden Paddle' award that's been passed down since 1952.

How to Find the Best Energy Plan in Three Rivers
#1 rule: Determine what your usage is!
Discovering how much electricity you will use each month is the ideal way to find a deal on electricity in Three Rivers. Why is this important?
The rate electricity companies advertise for an exact monthly usage (typically 1000 kWh).
Every plan has a different equation for how your monthly statement is determined, and your monthly bill will change according to how much electricity you use in the month.
Unless you match the exact advertised usage each month, you will pay a "price per kWh" different than the one you saw advertised when you enrolled.
Thankfully, there's a better way to select your power plan.
Calculating your total monthly bill based on anticipated monthly usage, then comparing rates by total monthly cost is the best way to shop for the best rate for your household.
Better yet, if you have a year of usage history for your household, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the ideal way to find the perfect energy rate plan for your home.
Compare Power does all the complicated math for you instantly. What could take you hours on a spreadsheet is now solved in moments.
We put you in the driver's seat, taking what would amount to hours of research, spreadsheets, and calculations across hundreds of offers to assist you step-by-step with the electricity rate plan that's best for your household's consumption.
We clarify the details, disclosing all fees, so you'll know precisely where your money is going and what to expect on your bill.
We then help you sign up with your chosen power provider without leaving our service.
The bottom line is you should understand your expected or historical usage before choosing the right electricity plan for your home.
If you don't know your usage, estimate
Suppose you recently purchased a home or business or cannot obtain 12 months usage history. In that case, you can always estimate your average monthly energy usage.
While not as optimal as having all the previous 12 months of usage, estimating your average usage is better than blindly picking the first plan you see advertised by an electricity company at a specific usage that isn't what you'll consume.
Use Compare Power to shop for the best electricity plan for your specific usage.
Moving to Three Rivers: Setting up Electricity

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

By signing up for a plan through Compare Power, you will receive automated reminders when renewing your existing plan or possibly switching plans.
Switching Electricity Companies in Three Rivers
Switching is good. Market conditions are constantly changing, so shopping for a lower rate yearly when your contract expires is essential.
Your existing energy company will typically raise your energy rate once your contract expires. If you do not act, you'll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly higher than the plan you signed up for.
Before renewing your contract, shop the rates of competing electricity providers.
Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your energy bill.
Switching is easy:
- You don't have to contact your current company to cancel (no "break-up call")
- No one comes to your home
- There is no disruption in your electricity supply
- It takes just minutes
When you decide to switch, your new electricity company will take care of everything for you, including terminating service with your previous company.
Your lights stay on when you switch. Electricity in Three Rivers is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.
The wires and poles that deliver power to your home do not change when you switch electricity companies. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.
You can pick any date within 14 days of your contract expiration without an "early termination" fee. Texas law protects you here.
If you're still under contract, find out how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most providers up to 6o days in advance.
The amount saved each month by switching to a different electricity company may outweigh the one-time fee to get out of your contract early.
If you're ready to switch and want to know how to find the best plan, remember that understanding your usage is the best way to find the cheapest rate.
You will want to find your past usage for the last 12 months to determine your household's best plan with the lowest rate.
