AboutTeague
Did You Know?
Teague was founded in 1906 as a railroad town when the Trinity and Brazos Valley Railway established a depot here, naming it after B.F. Teague, a local landowner who donated land for the railroad right-of-way. The town quickly became a vital shipping point for cotton, corn, and livestock from the surrounding Blackland Prairie region, with the railroad serving as the economic lifeline that transformed this rural area into a thriving agricultural community.
In 2020, Teague completed a major downtown revitalization project that restored several historic buildings along Main Street and created new public spaces including a community pavilion and walking trail. The $2.3 million project, funded through state grants and local bonds, has attracted new businesses and helped preserve the town's historic character while modernizing infrastructure for future growth.
Country music legend Lefty Frizzell was born in Corsicana but spent much of his childhood in nearby Teague, where his family moved when he was young. Frizzell, who influenced artists like Merle Haggard and George Jones, often credited his East Texas upbringing for shaping his distinctive honky-tonk style that made him a Grand Ole Opry star in the 1950s.
Teague is home to one of the last remaining original Harvey House restaurant buildings in Texas, built in 1907 to serve railroad passengers along the Trinity and Brazos Valley line. The Fred Harvey Company was famous for bringing fine dining and civilized hospitality to the American frontier, and Teague's Harvey House served thousands of travelers with white tablecloth service and the famous 'Harvey Girls' waitresses until passenger rail service ended in the 1960s.
Every October, Teague hosts the annual 'Rails and Trails Festival' that celebrates the town's railroad heritage with live music, antique train displays, and historical reenactments. The festival features a unique 'Hobo Stew Cook-off' where local teams compete using recipes supposedly passed down from Depression-era railroad workers, and visitors can take rides on a restored 1920s railroad handcar along a preserved section of the original Trinity and Brazos Valley tracks.

How to Find the Best Energy Plan in Teague
#1 rule: Know your usage!
Discovering how much electricity you will use monthly is the ideal way to find a deal on power in Teague. Why does this matter?
The rate you see power companies advertising is for an exact monthly usage (usually 1000 kWh).
Every plan uses a different calculation for how your monthly statement is calculated, and your monthly bill will change according to how much energy you consume in the month.
Unless you use the advertised amount each month, you will pay a "price per kWh" different than what you observed when you signed up.
Fortunately, there's a better way to shop for an energy plan.
Calculating your expected monthly bill based on estimated monthly usage, then comparing rates by total monthly cost is the best way to shop for the best rate for your home.
Better still, if you have 12 months of usage history for your home, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the best way to determine the ideal electricity plan for your home.
Compare Power does all this math for you in an instant. What could take you hours inside a spreadsheet is now solved in seconds.
We put you in the driver's seat, taking what would amount to hours of investigation, spreadsheets, and computations across hundreds of offers, and navigate you step-by-step to the energy plan best for your household's usage.
We clarify the details, disclosing the various charges, so you'll know exactly where your money is going and what to anticipate on your bill.
We then assist you in ordering your plan with your chosen electricity company without ever having to leave our website.
The bottom line is you must understand your expected or historical usage before ordering the right energy plan for your home.
If you don't know your usage, estimate
If you cannot acquire 12 months of historical usage or own a brand new home, the next best thing is to estimate how much energy you will use in an average month.
While not as optimal as having all the previous 12 months of usage, estimating your average usage is better than blindly picking the first plan you see advertised by an electricity provider at a specific usage that isn't what you'll consume.
Use Compare Power to shop for the best electricity plan for your specific usage.

Switching Electricity Companies in Teague
Switching is good. Market conditions are constantly changing, so it is essential to shop for a lower price every year when your contract is close to expiring.
Your existing electricity company will typically raise your electricity rate once your contract expires. If you do not take action, you'll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly higher than the plan you signed up for.
Before renewing your contract, check the rates of competing energy companies.
Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your electricity bill.
Switching is easy:
- You don't have to contact your current company to cancel (no "break-up call")
- No one comes to your home
- There is no disruption in your electricity supply
- It takes just minutes
When you make the switch, your new electricity company will handle everything for you, including canceling service with your previous company.
There is no loss of power when you switch. Electricity in Teague is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.
The wires and poles that deliver electricity to your home do not change when you switch electricity companies. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.
You can pick any date within 14 days of your contract expiration without an "early termination" penalty. Texas law protects you here.
If you're still under contract, check how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most providers up to 6o days in advance.
The amount saved each month by switching to a different electricity company may outweigh the one-time fee to get out of your contract early.
If you're ready to switch and want to know how to find the best plan, remember that knowing your usage is the best way to find the best rate.
You will want to gather your historical usage for the last 12 months to determine your household's best plan with the lowest rate.
