HISTORICAL

Seabrook was founded in 1895 by Seabrook Sydnor, a wealthy lumberman who purchased 8,000 acres of coastal prairie land to establish a lumber mill and company town. The town was strategically located along Clear Creek to provide water access for shipping lumber, and Sydnor built the first railroad spur to connect his mill to the Galveston, Houston and Henderson Railroad, making it a crucial timber hub for the growing Houston area.

RECENT

In 2017, Seabrook completed a major $15 million downtown waterfront redevelopment project that transformed the historic Seabrook Harbor area into a modern marina and entertainment district. The project included new restaurants, shops, and a 300-slip marina that has become one of the premier boating destinations on Galveston Bay, attracting thousands of visitors annually and revitalizing the local economy.

OTHER

FAMOUS PEOPLE/EVENTS: Seabrook gained international attention in 1969 when NASA astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins were quarantined at the nearby Lunar Receiving Laboratory after returning from the Apollo 11 moon landing. The astronauts spent 21 days in isolation just miles from Seabrook, and the city has maintained strong ties to NASA's Johnson Space Center, with many residents working in the space program throughout the decades.

DID YOU KNOW

Seabrook is home to one of the most unusual restaurants in Texas - The Boondoggles Raw Bar & Grill, which is built entirely on stilts over Clear Creek and can only be accessed by boat or a narrow wooden walkway. The restaurant has survived multiple hurricanes since 1976, including Hurricane Ike in 2008, and has become a legendary destination where patrons often arrive by kayak, sailboat, or yacht to enjoy fresh seafood literally suspended over the water.

CULTURAL

Every October, Seabrook hosts the annual Seabrook Lucky Fest, a quirky festival celebrating the city's survival through numerous hurricanes and floods with the motto 'We're Still Here!' The festival features live music, local seafood, and the famous 'Hurricane Survivor Stories' tent where longtime residents share tales of weathering storms dating back to Hurricane Carla in 1961. The event draws thousands of visitors who come to experience the resilient coastal culture and hear firsthand accounts of life on the Texas Gulf Coast.

How to Find the Best Energy Plan in Seabrook

#1 rule: Usage is key!

Knowing how much electricity you will use monthly is the ideal way to shop for electricity in Seabrook. Why is this so vital?

The "price per kWh" you see energy companies advertising is for an exact monthly usage (usually 2000 kWh).

Every plan uses a different calculation for how your monthly statement is computed, and your monthly bill will change according to how much energy you use in the month.

Unless you match the exact advertised usage each month, you will end up paying a "price per kWh" different than what you observed when you enrolled.

Fortunately, there's a better way to shop for an electricity plan.

Calculating your expected monthly bill based on estimated monthly usage, then comparing plans by the total monthly bill is the best way to shop for the lowest rate for your household.

Even better, if you have a year of usage history for your home, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the best way to discover the perfect energy rate plan for your home.

Compare Power does all this math for you instantly. What takes hours on a spreadsheet is now done in a few seconds.

We put the power in your hands, taking what would amount to hours of research, spreadsheets, and calculations across hundreds of offers and navigating you step-by-step to the energy rate plan that's best for your household's usage.

We clarify the fine print, disclosing all fees, so you'll know exactly where your money goes and what to expect on your bill.

We then help you sign up with your selected power provider without ever leaving our service.

The bottom line is you should determine your expected or historical usage before choosing the right energy plan for your home.

If you don't know your usage, estimate

Suppose you recently purchased a home or business or cannot obtain 12 months usage history. In that case, you can always estimate your average monthly energy usage.

Although knowing the previous 12 months of usage is optimum, it is far better to estimate the average energy consumption than to select the first electricity provider that you see advertised. After all, you have no idea how much energy you will use at that point.

Use Compare Power to shop for the best electricity plan for your specific usage.

Moving to Seabrook: Setting up Electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Seabrook, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

Acquiring usage for the past 12 months may take effort, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home's usage pattern.

Note: If you cannot obtain historical usage information, a second option would be to estimate your future usage using our "Help Me Choose" tool. By simply entering your zip code, the tool can assess your home's projected electricity consumption.

Sign-up for a plan instantly through Compare Power. We will remind you when it's time to come back to switch and save at the end of the plan term you decide on.

Switching Electricity Companies in Seabrook

Switching is good. Market conditions are constantly changing, so it is essential to shop for a lower rate each year when your contract is about to expire.

Your existing electricity provider will typically raise your energy rate once your contract expires. If you do not act, you'll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly higher than the plan you signed up for.

Before renewing your contract, check the rates of competing energy companies.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your energy bill.

Switching is easy:

  • You don't have to call your current company to cancel (no "break-up call")
  • No one comes to your home
  • There is no disruption in your electricity supply
  • It takes just minutes

When you decide to switch, your new electricity provider will handle everything, including canceling service with your previous company.

Your lights stay on when you switch. Electricity in Seabrook is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver power to your home do not change when you switch electricity companies. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can pick any date up to 14 days early from your current contract's end date without an "early termination" fee. That's Texas Law.

If you're still under contract, check how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most companies up to 6o days in advance.

The amount saved each month by switching to a different electricity company may outweigh the one-time fee to get out of your contract early.

If you're ready to switch and would like to know how to find the best plan remember that understanding your usage is the best way to find the lowest price.

You will want to find your past usage for the last 12 months to determine the best plan with the lowest rate for your household.
