AboutSabinal
Did You Know?
Sabinal was founded in 1882 as a railroad town along the Galveston, Harrisburg and San Antonio Railway. The town's name comes from the Spanish word for 'cypress,' referring to the abundant cypress trees that grew along the nearby Sabinal River, which provided crucial water and timber resources for early settlers and railroad operations.
In 2019, Sabinal completed a major downtown revitalization project that restored several historic buildings along Main Street and added new sidewalks and period lighting. The project was funded through a combination of state grants and local fundraising efforts, bringing new businesses and renewed pride to the small community's historic core.
Country music singer and songwriter Darrell McCall, known as 'Real Country,' was born in Sabinal in 1940. McCall went on to record over 50 albums and had several hits on the country charts, including 'Lily Dale' and 'The Wind,' while maintaining his connection to his small Texas hometown throughout his career.
Sabinal is home to one of the last remaining original Harvey House restaurant buildings in Texas, built in 1883 to serve railroad passengers. The Fred Harvey Company was famous for bringing fine dining and civilized hospitality to the American frontier, and Sabinal's Harvey House served thousands of travelers with white tablecloth service and the famous 'Harvey Girls' waitresses until the 1930s.
Every October, Sabinal hosts the annual Sabinal River Festival, which celebrates the town's connection to the spring-fed Sabinal River with live music, local crafts, and traditional Texas barbecue. The festival features a unique 'cypress knee' carving contest, where artists create sculptures from the distinctive root formations of the ancient cypress trees that still line the riverbanks, continuing a folk art tradition that dates back to the town's founding.

How to Find the Best Energy Plan in Sabinal
#1 rule: Usage is king!
Determining the amount of electricity you will use monthly is the ideal way to shop for energy in Sabinal. Why should you care?
The "price per kWh" you see power providers advertising is for an exact monthly usage (typically 1000 kWh).
Every plan uses a different calculation for how your monthly statement is calculated, and your monthly bill will vary depending on how much power you use in the month.
Unless you use the advertised amount each month, you will pay a "price per kWh" different than when you enrolled.
Fortunately, there's a better way to choose your power provider.
Calculating your expected monthly bill based on anticipated monthly usage, then comparing options by the total monthly bill is the best way to shop for the best rate for your home.
Better yet, if you have a year of usage history for your home, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the best way to find the perfect electricity plan for your home.
Compare Power does all the complicated math for you in an instant. What could take you hours inside a spreadsheet is now solved in seconds.
We put the power in your hands, taking what would amount to hours of investigation, spreadsheets, and computations across hundreds of offers and guide you step-by-step to the energy rate plan that's best for your home's usage.
We clarify the details, disclosing the various charges, so you'll know exactly where your money is going and what to anticipate on your bill.
We then help you sign up with your selected power company without ever leaving our website.
The bottom line is you must know your expected or historical usage before selecting the best energy plan for your home.
If you don't know your usage, estimate
Suppose you recently purchased a home or business or cannot obtain 12 months of usage history. In that case, you can always estimate your average monthly energy usage.
While not as optimal as having all the previous 12 months of usage, estimating your average usage is better than blindly picking the first plan you see advertised by an energy company at a specific usage that isn't what you'll consume.
Use Compare Power to find the best electricity plan for your specific usage.

Switching Electricity Companies in Sabinal
Switching is good. Market conditions constantly change, so you must shop for a lower rate each year when your contract expires.
Your existing energy provider will generally raise your electricity rate once your contract expires. If you do not act, you'll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly higher than the plan you signed up for.
Before renewing your contract, check the rates of competing electricity companies.
Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your electricity bill.
Switching is easy:
- You don't have to contact your current provider to cancel (no "break-up call")
- No one comes to your home
- There is no disruption in your power supply
- It takes just minutes
When you decide to switch, your new electricity company will handle everything for you, including canceling service with your previous company.
Your lights stay on when you switch. Electricity in Sabinal is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.
The wires and poles that deliver electricity to your home do not change when you switch energy providers. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.
You can pick any date within 14 days of your contract expiration without an "early cancellation" fee. Texas law protects you here.
If you're still under contract, check how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most providers up to 6o days in advance.
And even if you're well inside your contract, savings achieved on your monthly bill by switching providers may outweigh the fee of breaking your existing contract.
If you're ready to switch and would like to know how to find the best plan remember that understanding your usage is the best way to find the lowest rate.
You will want to gather your historical usage for the last 12 months to determine the best plan with the lowest rate for your household.
