Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Rule was founded in 1906 by Ollie Rule, a land developer who purchased 12,000 acres from the SMS Ranch and established the town as a farming community. The town was strategically located along the Wichita Valley Railroad, which made it a vital shipping point for cotton and grain produced by area farmers during the early 20th century agricultural boom in West Texas.

RECENT

In 2020, Rule completed a major downtown revitalization project that restored several historic buildings along Union Avenue, the town's main street. The project included new sidewalks, period-appropriate street lighting, and facade improvements that have attracted new businesses and helped preserve the town's early 1900s architectural character.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Rule was the childhood home of legendary Texas high school football coach Gordon Wood, who won more games than any other high school football coach in Texas history with 396 victories. Wood coached at Rule High School in the 1940s before moving on to larger schools, and the town still celebrates his connection to their community with a memorial display at the school.

DID YOU KNOW

Rule is home to one of the last remaining original Texaco service stations built in the distinctive Art Deco style of the 1930s, complete with the original porcelain enamel panels and vintage gas pumps. The station, which operated continuously for over 70 years, has been preserved as a local landmark and is considered one of the best examples of roadside Americana architecture in West Texas.

CULTURAL

Every October, Rule hosts the annual 'Cotton Festival' that celebrates the town's agricultural heritage with a parade featuring antique farm equipment, cotton picking demonstrations, and a contest for the best homemade cotton candy. The festival draws visitors from across the region and includes live country music, local craft vendors, and a traditional barbecue cook-off that has been running for over 30 years.

Electricity in Rule is deregulated. As an energy customer, you can choose a retail electricity provider (your energy provider), which gives you control and power over your energy bills.

Deregulation of energy in Texas de-monopolized the energy market for most of Texas, the city of Rule included, which introduced lots of competition.

As a result, many fantastic energy providers compete for your business in Rule by offering low prices, making it a great time to compare, switch, and save money on your electricity statement.

As many as 60-100 energy companies compete for your account in Rule, and hundreds of plans exist.

How to Find the Best Energy Plan in Rule

#1 rule: Determine what your usage is!

Discovering how much electricity you will consume monthly is the ideal way to find a deal on electricity in Rule. Why should you care?

The "price per kWh" you see electricity providers advertising is for an exact monthly usage (typically 1000 kWh).

Every plan uses a different equation for how your monthly bill is calculated, and your monthly bill will be determined by how much electricity you use in the month.

Unless you use precisely the advertised amount each month, you will end up paying a "price per kWh" different than the one you saw advertised when you signed up.

Fortunately, there's a better way to shop for an electricity company.

Calculating your total monthly bill based on expected monthly usage, then comparing options by the total monthly bill is the best way to shop for the best rate for you.

Even better, if you have 12 months of usage history for your home, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the ideal way to discover the ideal electricity plan for your home.

Compare Power does all this math for you in an instant. What takes hours on a spreadsheet is now solved in just moments.

We put you in the driver's seat, taking what would amount to hours of research, spreadsheets, and calculations across hundreds of plans and navigating you step-by-step to the electricity plan that's best for your home's usage.

We clarify the details, disclosing the various charges, so you'll know precisely where your money is going and what to expect on your bill.

We then assist you in enrolling with your selected power provider without ever having to leave our website.

The bottom line is you must understand your expected or historical usage before picking the best electricity plan for your home.

If you don't know your usage, estimate

If you cannot acquire 12 months of historical usage or own a brand new home, the next best thing is to estimate how much energy you will use in an average month.

Although knowing the previous 12 months of usage is optimum, it is far better to estimate the average energy consumption than to select the first electricity provider that you see advertised. After all, you have no idea how much energy you will use at that point.

Use Compare Power to shop for the best electricity plan for your specific usage.

Moving to Rule: Setting up Electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Rule, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

Acquiring usage for the past 12 months may take effort, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home's usage pattern.

Note: If you cannot obtain historical usage information, a second option would be to estimate your future usage using our "Help Me Choose" tool. By simply entering your zip code, the tool can assess your home's projected electricity consumption.

By signing up for a plan through Compare Power you will receive automated reminders when it's time to renew your existing plan or switch plans.

Switching Electricity Companies in Rule

Switching is good. Market conditions are constantly changing, so it is essential to shop for a lower rate each year when your contract is about to expire.

Your existing energy provider will typically raise your electricity rate once your contract expires. If you fail to act, you'll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly higher than the plan you signed up for.

Before renewing your contract, check the rates of competing electricity companies.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your electricity bill.

Switching is easy:

  • You don't have to contact your current company to cancel (no "break-up call")
  • No one comes to your home
  • There is no disruption in your power supply
  • It takes just minutes

When you decide to switch, your new energy provider will take care of everything for you, including canceling service with your previous provider.

Your lights stay on when you switch. Electricity in Rule is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver power to your home do not change when you switch electricity providers. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can choose any date up to 14 days before your contract's end date without an "early cancellation" fee. That's Texas Law.

If you're still under contract, check how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most providers up to 6o days in advance.

And even if you're well inside your contract, savings achieved on your monthly bill by switching providers may outweigh the fee to break your existing contract.

If you're ready to switch and would like to know how to find the best plan remember that knowing your usage is the best way to find the cheapest rate.

You will want to find your past usage for the past 12 months to determine the best plan with the lowest rate for your household.
