AboutRichland
Did You Know?
Richland was established in 1871 as a farming community along the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railroad line. The town was named for the rich, fertile soil that made it ideal for cotton farming, and it quickly became a shipping point for agricultural products heading to markets in Dallas and beyond during the late 19th century.
In 2018, Richland completed a major downtown revitalization project that restored several historic buildings along Main Street and added new sidewalks and period lighting. The project was funded through a combination of state historic preservation grants and local fundraising efforts, bringing new life to the small town's commercial district.
Country music songwriter and performer Red Steagall, known for penning hits like 'Lone Star Beer and Bob Wills Music' and serving as the Official Cowboy Poet of Texas, spent part of his childhood in the Richland area. He later became a member of the Western Swing Hall of Fame and continues to celebrate Texas cowboy culture through his music and poetry.
Richland is home to one of the oldest continuously operating general stores in East Texas, originally built in 1885 and still serving the community today. The store still features its original wooden floors, tin ceiling, and vintage cash register, and locals joke that you can buy everything from fishing bait to wedding rings under one roof.
Every October, Richland hosts the annual Pumpkin Festival, a tradition that began in 1982 when local farmers had an exceptionally good pumpkin harvest. The festival features pumpkin carving contests, hayrides through local farms, and the crowning of the Pumpkin Queen, drawing visitors from across Navarro County to this tiny town of just over 260 residents.

How to Find the Best Energy Plan in Richland
#1 rule: Determine what your usage is!
Knowing how much energy you will consume monthly is the best way to shop for electricity in Richland. Why is this so vital?
The "price per kWh" you see energy providers advertising is for an exact monthly usage (usually 2000 kWh).
Every plan has a different equation for how your monthly bill is calculated, and your monthly bill will be determined by how much power you consume in a month.
Unless you match the exact advertised usage each month, you will pay a "price per kWh" different than the one you saw advertised when you ordered.
Thankfully, there's a better way to shop for energy rates.
Calculating your total monthly bill based on expected monthly usage, then comparing plans by total monthly cost is the best way to shop for the lowest rate for your household.
Even better, if you have 12 months of usage history for your home, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the ideal way to discover your home's ideal electricity rate plan.
Compare Power does all the complicated math for you in an instant. What takes hours on a spreadsheet is now done in just seconds.
We put the power in your hands, taking what would amount to hours of investigation, spreadsheets, and calculations across hundreds of plans and guiding you to the best electricity plan for your home's usage.
We clarify the fine print, disclosing all fees, so you'll know precisely where your money is going and what to anticipate on your bill.
We then assist you in enrolling with your chosen electricity provider without leaving our service.
The bottom line is you must understand your expected or historical usage before choosing the right energy plan for your home.
If you don't know your usage, estimate
If you cannot acquire 12 months of historical usage or own a brand new home, the next best thing is to estimate how much energy you will use in an average month.
While not as optimal as having all the previous 12 months of usage, estimating your average usage is better than blindly choosing the first plan you see advertised by an electricity company at a specific usage that isn't what you'll consume.
Use Compare Power to find the best energy plan for your specific usage.

Switching Electricity Companies in Richland
Switching is good. Market conditions are constantly changing, so it is essential to shop for a lower rate each year when your contract is about to expire.
Your existing energy company will normally raise your energy rate once your contract expires. If you fail to take action, you'll be left on a month-to-month rate that is significantly more than the plan you signed up for.
Before renewing your contract, shop the rates of competing electricity providers.
Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your energy bill.
Switching is easy:
- You don't have to contact your current provider to cancel (no "break-up call")
- No one comes to your home
- There is no disruption in your electricity supply
- It takes just minutes
When you decide to switch, your new energy company will handle everything for you, including canceling service with your previous provider.
There is no loss of power when you switch. Electricity in Richland is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.
The wires and poles that deliver power to your home do not change when you switch electricity companies. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.
You can choose any date within 14 days of your contract expiration without an "early cancellation" fee. Texas law protects you here.
If you're still under contract, find out how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most providers up to 6o days in advance.
The amount saved each month by switching to a different electricity company may outweigh the one-time fee to get out of your contract early.
If you're ready to switch and would like to know how to find the best plan remember that understanding your usage is the best way to find the best rate.
You will want to gather your historical usage for the past 12 months to determine the best plan with the lowest rate for your household.
