HISTORICAL

McGregor was founded in 1882 as a railroad town when the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railroad established a depot here. The town was named after Gregor McGregor, a Scottish adventurer and soldier of fortune who never actually visited Texas but whose name was chosen by railroad officials. The railroad brought prosperity as McGregor became a major shipping point for cotton and cattle from the surrounding Blackland Prairie region.

RECENT

In 2021, McGregor gained international attention when SpaceX founder Elon Musk's rocket company began conducting major operations at their nearby Starship development facility. The increased activity has brought new businesses and visitors to the small town, with local restaurants and shops reporting significant increases in customers from SpaceX employees and space enthusiasts making pilgrimages to see rocket tests.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

McGregor is the hometown of legendary country music songwriter Cindy Walker, who penned over 400 songs including classics like 'You Don't Know Me' and 'Dream Baby.' Walker wrote hits for Bob Wills, Bing Crosby, and Roy Orbison, and was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1997. She lived most of her life in the same house where she was born in McGregor in 1918.

DID YOU KNOW

McGregor sits on one of the most geologically active areas in Texas, with the Balcones Fault Zone running directly through the town. This fault line has created natural springs that attracted the first settlers and occasionally produces minor earthquakes that can be felt by residents. The fault zone also creates unique soil conditions that make the area particularly fertile for growing cotton and corn.

CULTURAL

Every September, McGregor hosts the annual 'Fireman's Festival' which began in 1952 and features one of the most unusual competitions in Texas - a water fight between volunteer fire departments from across Central Texas. Teams compete using vintage fire trucks and equipment to see who can knock a barrel off a wire using only water pressure. The festival also includes a famous barbecue cook-off that draws pitmasters from across the region.

How to Find the Best Energy Plan in Mcgregor

#1 rule: Determine what your usage is!

Determining how much energy you will use each month is the best way to find a deal on electricity in Mcgregor. Why should you care?

The "price per kWh" you see energy providers advertising is for an exact monthly usage (usually 2000 kWh).

Every plan uses a different equation for how your monthly bill is computed, and your monthly bill will vary depending on how much energy you use in a month.

Unless you use the advertised amount each month, you will pay a "price per kWh" different than the one you saw advertised when you ordered.

Thankfully, there's a better way to select your power company.

Calculating your total monthly bill based on expected monthly usage, then comparing plans by the total monthly bill is the best way to shop for the lowest rate for your home.

Better still, if you have a year of usage history for your household, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the ideal way to find the perfect electricity plan for your home.

Compare Power does all this math for you in an instant. What could take you hours on a spreadsheet is solved quickly.

We put you in the driver's seat, taking what would amount to hours of investigation, spreadsheets, and computations across hundreds of plans, and navigate you step-by-step to the electricity plan that's best for your household's consumption.

We clarify the fine print, disclosing the various charges, so you'll know precisely where your money is going and what to expect on your monthly bill.

We then assist you in ordering your plan with your selected power provider without leaving our website.

The takeaway is that you should understand your expected or historical usage before picking the best energy plan for your home.

If you don't know your usage, estimate

Suppose you recently purchased a home or business or cannot obtain 12 months of usage history. In that case, you can always estimate your average energy in any given month.

Although knowing the previous 12 months of usage is optimum, it is far better to estimate the average energy consumption than to select the first electricity provider that you see advertised. After all, you have no idea how much energy you will use at that point.

Use Compare Power to shop for the best energy plan for your specific usage.

Moving to Mcgregor: Setting up Electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Mcgregor, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

Acquiring usage for the past 12 months may take effort, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home's usage pattern.

Note: If you cannot obtain historical usage information, a second option would be to estimate your future usage using our "Help Me Choose" tool. By simply entering your zip code, the tool will be able to assess your home's projected electricity consumption.

Sign-up for a plan instantly through Compare Power. We will remind you when it's time to return to switch and save at the end of the plan term you decide on.

Switching Electricity Companies in Mcgregor

Switching is good. Market conditions constantly change, so you must shop for a lower rate each year when your contract expires.

Your existing electricity provider will typically raise your electricity rate once your term expires. If you do not act, you'll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly more than the plan you signed up for.

Before renewing your contract, shop the rates of competing energy providers.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your energy bill.

Switching is easy:

  • You don't have to contact your current provider to cancel (no "break-up call")
  • No one comes to your home
  • There is no disruption in your power supply
  • It takes just minutes

When you switch, your new energy provider will handle everything for you, including terminating service with your previous company.

Your lights stay on when you switch. Electricity in Mcgregor is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver power to your home do not change when you switch energy providers. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can pick any date up to 14 days before your contract ends without an "early termination" penalty. That's Texas Law.

If you're still under contract, find out how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most companies up to 6o days in advance.

The amount saved each month by switching to a different electricity company may outweigh the one-time fee to get out of your contract early.

If you're ready to switch and would like to know how to find the best plan remember that understanding your usage is the best way to find the lowest price.

You will want to find your historical usage for the last 12 months to determine the best plan with the lowest rate for your household.
