Lott was founded in 1881 when the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railroad extended its line through Falls County. The town was named after Uriah Lott, a prominent local landowner who donated land for the railroad depot and townsite, establishing what would become a vital agricultural shipping point in Central Texas.
In 2020, Lott completed a major downtown revitalization project that restored several historic buildings along Main Street and added new sidewalks and period lighting. The project was funded through a combination of state grants and local fundraising efforts, bringing new life to the small town's commercial district.
Country music singer and songwriter Red Steagall, known as the 'Cowboy Poet of Texas,' spent part of his childhood in the Lott area during the 1940s. He later became famous for hits like 'Lone Star Beer and Bob Wills Music' and was inducted into the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame in 2001.
Lott is home to one of the last remaining original Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railroad depots in Central Texas, built in 1882.
