AboutLatexo
Did You Know?
Latexo was founded in 1902 as a railroad town along the International and Great Northern Railroad line that connected Houston to Palestine. The town's unusual name comes from combining 'LA' for Louisiana, 'TEX' for Texas, and 'O' for Oklahoma, representing the three states that many of the original settlers came from during the early 1900s railroad boom.
In 2020, Latexo completed a major infrastructure upgrade that brought high-speed fiber internet to this tiny East Texas community of just 264 residents. The project, funded through a rural broadband initiative, transformed the town into one of the most connected small communities in Texas, attracting remote workers and small tech businesses to the area.
Country music songwriter and producer Billy Sherrill, who wrote hits for Tammy Wynette including 'Stand By Your Man,' spent part of his childhood in Latexo during the 1940s. Sherrill later became one of Nashville's most influential producers, helping create the 'Nashville Sound' that dominated country music in the 1960s and 70s.
Despite having fewer than 300 residents, Latexo operates one of the smallest municipal airports in Texas, with a grass runway that was originally built in the 1940s for crop dusting operations. The airport still serves local farmers and occasionally hosts vintage aircraft fly-ins, making this tiny town a surprising aviation hub in the Piney Woods region.
Latexo holds an annual 'Railroad Days' festival every October that celebrates its heritage as a railroad town, complete with model train displays and rides on a restored 1920s handcar. The festival draws visitors from across East Texas who come to experience small-town hospitality and learn about the role of railroads in developing rural Texas communities during the early 20th century.

How to Find the Best Energy Plan in Latexo
#1 rule: Usage is king!
Knowing how much electricity you will use in a month is the ideal way to find a deal on electricity in Latexo. Why should you care?
The "price per kWh" you see energy providers advertising is for an exact monthly usage (typically 2000 kWh).
Every plan has a different equation for how your monthly statement is determined, and your monthly bill will be determined by how much energy you use each month.
Unless you match the exact advertised usage each month, you will end up paying an effective "price per kWh" different than the one you saw advertised when you signed up.
Fortunately, there's a better way to select your power rate.
Calculating your expected monthly bill based on anticipated monthly usage, then comparing options by the total monthly bill is the best way to shop for the lowest rate for your home.
Better yet, if you have 12 months of usage history for your home, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the ideal way to find the right energy rate plan for your home.
Compare Power does all the complicated math for you instantly. What could take you hours inside a spreadsheet is now done in seconds.
We put you in the driver's seat, taking what would amount to hours of research, spreadsheets, and computations across hundreds of offers and assisting you step-by-step with the energy plan that's best for your home's usage.
We clarify the fine print, disclosing all fees, so you'll know precisely where your money is going and what to anticipate on your monthly bill.
We then help you sign up with your selected energy provider without leaving our website.
The takeaway here is you should determine your expected or historical usage before selecting the best energy plan for your home.
If you don't know your usage, estimate
Suppose you recently purchased a home or business or cannot obtain 12 months of usage history. In that case, you can always estimate your average energy in any given month.
While not as optimal as having all the previous 12 months of usage, estimating your average usage is better than blindly choosing the first plan you see advertised by an electricity company at a specific usage that isn't what you'll consume.
Use Compare Power to shop for the best energy plan for your specific usage.

Switching Electricity Companies in Latexo
Switching is good. Market conditions are always changing, so it is essential to shop for a lower rate every year when your contract is close to expiring.
Your existing electricity provider will typically raise your energy rate once your contract expires. If you do not act, you'll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly higher than the plan you signed up for.
Before renewing your contract, shop the rates of competing energy providers.
Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your electricity bill.
Switching is easy:
- You don't have to call your current company to cancel (no "break-up call")
- No one comes to your home
- There is no disruption in your power supply
- It takes just minutes
When you switch, your new electricity provider will take care of everything for you, including canceling service with your previous company.
Your lights stay on when you switch. Electricity in Latexo is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.
The wires and poles that deliver power to your home do not change when you switch energy providers. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.
You can pick any date up to 14 days early from your current contract's end date without an "early termination" penalty. That's Texas Law.
If you're still under contract, check how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most companies up to 6o days in advance.
The amount saved each month by switching to a different electricity company may outweigh the one-time fee to get out of your contract early.
If you're ready to switch and would like to know how to find the best plan remember that understanding your usage is the best way to find the lowest price.
You will want to gather your historical usage for the last 12 months to determine the best plan with the lowest rate for your household.
