AboutLadonia
Did You Know?
Ladonia was founded in 1873 and named after Ladonia, Alabama, the former home of early settler William Emberson. The town grew rapidly as a railroad stop on the Texas and Pacific Railway, becoming a major shipping point for cotton and agricultural products from the fertile Blackland Prairie region of Northeast Texas.
In 2020, Ladonia completed a downtown revitalization project that restored several historic buildings along Main Street and added new sidewalks and period lighting. The project was funded through a combination of state grants and local fundraising efforts, bringing new life to the small town's commercial district.
Ladonia was the childhood home of country music songwriter Cindy Walker, who penned classics like 'You Don't Know Me' recorded by Ray Charles and 'Dream Baby' by Roy Orbison. Walker wrote over 400 songs during her career and was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1997, though she always maintained strong ties to her small Texas hometown.
Ladonia holds the unusual distinction of being one of the few Texas towns to have been 'invaded' by a foreign micronation in the 1990s. A man from Wisconsin declared himself 'King James I' of the 'Kingdom of Ladonia' and attempted to claim sovereignty over the town through legal filings, though the residents politely declined his royal authority and the kingdom remained purely ceremonial.
Every October, Ladonia hosts the annual Fossil Festival, celebrating the area's rich paleontological heritage as part of the Cretaceous-era fossil beds. Local residents and visitors can participate in guided fossil hunts in nearby creek beds, where 100-million-year-old shark teeth, ammonites, and other marine fossils can still be found, remnants of when this area was covered by an ancient sea.

How to Find the Best Energy Plan in Ladonia
#1 rule: Determine what your usage is!
Knowing the amount of electricity you will consume each month is the ideal way to find a deal on electricity in Ladonia. Why is this so vital?
The "price per kWh" you see energy providers advertising is for an exact monthly usage (typically 1000 kWh).
Every plan uses a different calculation for how your monthly bill is determined, and your monthly bill will vary depending on how much power you use in a month.
Unless you use exactly the advertised amount each month, you will end up paying an effective "price per kWh" different than what you saw when you signed up.
Fortunately, there's a better way to select your electricity plan.
Calculating your expected monthly bill based on expected monthly usage, then comparing options by total monthly cost is the best way to shop for the lowest rate for your household.
Better yet, if you have 12 months of usage history for your home, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the ideal way to discover the right electricity plan for your home.
Compare Power does all this math for you instantly. What could take you hours on a spreadsheet is now done in seconds.
We put the power in your hands, taking what would amount to hours of research, spreadsheets, and calculations across hundreds of offers and assisting you step-by-step with the energy plan that's best for your household's usage.
We clarify the details, disclosing the various charges, so you'll know exactly where your money is going and what to expect on your monthly bill.
We then assist you in enrolling with your chosen power provider without ever having to leave our service.
The bottom line is you should determine your expected or historical usage before selecting the right electricity plan for your home.
If you don't know your usage, estimate
If you cannot acquire 12 months of historical usage or own a brand new home, the next best thing is to estimate how much energy you will use in an average month.
Although knowing the previous 12 months of usage is optimum, it is far better to estimate the average energy consumption than to select the first electricity provider that you see advertised. After all, you have no idea how much energy you will use at that point.
Use Compare Power to find the best energy plan for your specific usage.
Moving to Ladonia: Setting up Electricity
If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Ladonia, to get the best rate, you need to get your new home's previous 12 months of energy usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

Switching Electricity Companies in Ladonia
Switching is good. Market conditions are always in flux, so it is important to shop for a lower price each year when your contract is about to expire.
Your existing electricity company will typically raise your energy rate once your contract expires. If you do not take action, you'll be left on a month-to-month rate that is significantly more than the plan you signed up for.
Before renewing your contract, check the rates of competing energy providers.
Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your electricity bill.
Switching is easy:
- You don't have to call your current company to cancel (no "break-up call")
- No one comes to your home
- There is no disruption in your electricity supply
- It takes just minutes
When you decide to switch, your new energy company will take care of everything for you, including terminating service with your previous company.
There is no loss of power when you switch. Electricity in Ladonia is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.
The wires and poles that deliver power to your home do not change when you switch electricity companies. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.
You can pick any date within 14 days of your contract expiration without an "early cancellation" penalty. That's Texas Law.
If you're still under contract, check how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most providers up to 6o days in advance.
And even if you're well inside your contract, savings achieved on your monthly bill by switching providers may outweigh the fee to break your existing contract.
If you're ready to switch and would like to know how to find the best plan remember that understanding your usage is the best way to find the lowest price.
Keep in mind that when you get ready to switch and you want to know the most efficient way to find the right plan at the best rate, it is essential that you first understand your usage. To accomplish that, you must collect the usage history for the past 12 months.
