HISTORICAL

Fairfield was founded in 1851 as the county seat of newly formed Freestone County, named after the abundant freestone peach orchards that flourished in the area. The town was strategically located at the intersection of two major stagecoach routes, making it a vital stop for travelers heading between Houston and Dallas in the mid-1800s. The original courthouse, built in 1856, served as a Confederate supply depot during the Civil War.

RECENT

In 2018, Fairfield completed a major downtown revitalization project that restored several historic buildings along Commerce Street and added new sidewalks, period lighting, and landscaping. The $2.3 million project was funded through a combination of state grants and local bonds, transforming the downtown area into a charming destination that attracts visitors exploring East Texas. The renovation has brought new businesses to the area and increased property values throughout the historic district.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Country music legend Lefty Frizzell was born in Corsicana but spent much of his childhood in nearby Fairfield, where he first learned to play guitar and developed his distinctive honky-tonk style. Frizzell went on to influence countless country artists including Merle Haggard and George Jones, and was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1982. His song 'If You've Got the Money I've Got the Time' became a country music standard and helped define the sound of 1950s honky-tonk.

DID YOU KNOW

Fairfield is home to one of the last remaining original Dairy Queen locations that still serves food from the original 1940s menu, including the famous 'Hungr-Buster' that was invented at this very location in 1971. The restaurant has maintained its vintage interior complete with original red booths and checkered floors, making it a pilgrimage site for Dairy Queen enthusiasts from across the country. The location was featured in a 2019 documentary about the history of Dairy Queen and continues to use some of the original equipment from the 1950s.

CULTURAL

Every October, Fairfield hosts the annual Freestone County Fair, which has been running continuously since 1903, making it one of the oldest county fairs in Texas. The fair features traditional competitions like livestock judging, quilting contests, and pie baking, alongside modern attractions and carnival rides. What makes this fair unique is its 'Heritage Village' where local artisans demonstrate blacksmithing, pottery making, and other 19th-century crafts, giving visitors an authentic glimpse into pioneer life in East Texas.

How to find the best energy plan in Fairfield

#1 rule: Know your usage!

Knowing the amount of energy you will consume in a month is the ideal way to find a deal on energy in Fairfield. Why should you care?

You see energy companies advertising the "price per kWh" for an exact monthly usage (typically 1000 kWh).

Every plan uses a different calculation for how your monthly statement is computed, and your monthly bill will change according to how much power you use in the month.

Unless you use the advertised amount each month, you will end up paying a "price per kWh" different than what you saw when you signed up.

Fortunately, there's a better way to pick your electricity company.

Calculating your total monthly bill based on estimated monthly usage, then comparing rates by total monthly cost is the best way to shop for the best rate for your household.

Better still, if you have a year of usage history for your household, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the ideal way to determine the ideal electricity plan for your home.

Compare Power does all this math for you instantly. What takes hours on a spreadsheet is now done in just seconds.

We put you in the driver's seat, taking what would amount to hours of research, spreadsheets, and computations across hundreds of offers, and navigate you step-by-step to the electricity plan that's best for your home's consumption.

We clarify the fine print, disclosing all fees, so you'll know exactly where your money is going and what to expect on your bill.

We then help you enroll with your selected energy company without ever leaving our service.

The takeaway here is you must understand your expected or historical usage before selecting the best energy plan for your home.

If you don't know your usage, estimate

If you cannot acquire 12 months of historical usage, or you're the owner of a brand new home, the next best thing is to estimate how much energy you will use in an average month.

Although knowing the previous 12 months of usage is optimum, it is far better to estimate the average energy consumption than to select the first electricity provider that you see advertised. After all, you have no idea how much energy you will use at that point.

Use Compare Power to shop for the best energy plan for yourspecific usage.

Moving to Fairfield: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Fairfield, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

Acquiring usage for the past 12 months may take effort, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home's usage pattern.

Note: If you can't obtain a usage history, you can estimate your monthly usage instead. Utilize our "Help Me Choose" tool when you enter your zip code below, and we'll help you evaluate your home's usage.

Sign-up for a plan in minutes through Compare Power. We will remind you when it's time to come back to switch and save at the end of the plan term you decide on.

Switching electricity companies in Fairfield

Switching is good. Market conditions are constantly changing, so it is essential to shop for a lower rate each year when your contract expires.

Your existing electricity provider will typically raise your energy rate once your contract expires. If you fail to take action, you'll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly higher than the plan you signed up for.

Before renewing your contract, check the rates of competing electricity providers.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your electricity bill.

Switching is easy:

When you make the switch, your new electricity provider will handle everything for you, including terminating service with your previous provider.

There is no loss of power when you switch. Electricity in Fairfield is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver power to your home do not change when you switch energy providers. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can pick any date up to 14 days before your current contract's end date without an "early termination" fee. That's Texas Law.

If you're still under contract, find out how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most providers up to 6o days in advance.

And even if you're well inside your contract, savings achieved on your monthly bill by switching providers may outweigh the fee of breaking your existing contract.

If you are unsure, email us your latest energy bill, and one of our team members will respond promptly with your best options.

If you're ready to switch and want to know how to find the best plan, remember that knowing your usage is the best way to find the best price.

You will want to gather your past usage for the past 12 months to determine the best plan with the lowest rate for your household.
