AboutView
Did You Know?
View was established in 1886 as a railroad stop along the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railroad, earning its name from the spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding North Texas countryside that early settlers could see from the elevated train platform. The town served as a crucial shipping point for cotton and cattle from the surrounding farms and ranches during the late 1800s and early 1900s.
In 2020, View completed a major infrastructure upgrade that brought high-speed fiber internet to all residents and businesses in the tiny community. This $2.3 million project, funded through federal rural development grants, has attracted several remote workers and small tech companies to relocate to the area, breathing new life into the historic downtown district.
Country music songwriter Red Lane, who penned hits for Merle Haggard including 'The Fugitive' and 'If We Make It Through December,' was born and raised in View during the 1930s. Lane went on to become one of Nashville's most successful songwriters, but he always credited his small-town Texas upbringing for giving him the authentic voice that resonated in his music.
View holds the distinction of being one of the smallest incorporated cities in Texas to have its own post office, bank, and railroad depot all operating simultaneously during the early 1900s. The original 1890s railroad depot still stands today and has been converted into a museum that houses artifacts from when the town had over 500 residents, compared to its current population of around 150 people.
Every October, View hosts the annual 'Panoramic Pumpkin Festival' where residents and visitors gather to recreate the historic train platform views that gave the town its name, but with a fall twist. Local families compete in pumpkin-growing contests, and the winner gets to ring the original 1886 railroad bell that still sits in the town square, continuing a tradition that has connected generations of View residents for over a century.

How to Find the Best Energy Plan in View
#1 rule: Determine what your usage is!
Knowing how much electricity you will use monthly is the best way to find a deal on electricity in View. Why is this so vital?
The rate you see energy companies advertising is for an exact monthly usage (usually 1000 kWh).
Every plan uses a different equation for how your monthly statement is determined, and your monthly bill will vary depending on how much energy you use in the month.
Unless you use precisely the advertised amount each month, you will pay a "price per kWh" different than what you observed when you enrolled.
Thankfully, there's a better way to select your electricity company.
Calculating your expected monthly bill based on expected monthly usage, then comparing options by the total monthly cost is the best way to shop for the best rate for your household.
Even better, if you have a year of usage history for your home, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the absolute best way to discover the ideal energy plan for your home.
Compare Power does all the complicated math for you instantly. What takes hours inside a spreadsheet is now done in just seconds.
We put you in the driver's seat, taking what would amount to hours of research, spreadsheets, and calculations across hundreds of offers and navigating you step-by-step to the energy plan that's best for your home's usage.
We clarify the details, disclosing the various charges, so you'll know exactly where your money is going and what to expect on your monthly bill.
We then assist you in signing up with your selected power company without leaving our website.
The bottom line is you must understand your expected or historical usage before selecting the best energy plan for your home.
If you don't know your usage, estimate
If you cannot acquire 12 months of historical usage or own a brand new home, the next best thing is to estimate how much energy you will use in an average month.
Although knowing the previous 12 months of usage is optimum, it is far better to estimate the average energy consumption than to select the first electricity provider that you see advertised. After all, you have no idea how much energy you will use at that point.
Use Compare Power to find the best energy plan for your specific usage.

Switching Electricity Companies in View
Switching is good. Market conditions are constantly changing, so it is essential to shop for a lower rate each year when your contract is close to expiring.
Your existing energy company will typically raise your electricity rate once your contract expires. If you fail to act, you'll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly higher than the plan you signed up for.
Before renewing your contract, shop the rates of competing electricity providers.
Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your energy bill.
Switching is easy:
- You don't have to call your current provider to cancel (no "break-up call")
- No one comes to your home
- There is no disruption in your electricity supply
- It takes just minutes
When you switch, your new energy company will handle everything for you, including terminating service with your previous company.
There is no loss of power when you switch. Electricity in View is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.
The wires and poles that deliver electricity to your home do not change when you switch electricity companies. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.
You can pick any date within 14 days of your contract expiration without an "early termination" penalty. That's Texas Law.
If you're still under contract, find out how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most companies up to 6o days in advance.
And even if you're well inside your contract, savings achieved on your monthly bill by switching providers may outweigh the fee to break your existing contract.
If you're ready to switch and would like to know how to find the best plan remember that understanding your usage is the best way to find the cheapest rate.
Keep in mind that when you get ready to switch and you want to know the most efficient way to find the right plan at the best rate, it is essential that you first understand your usage. To accomplish that, you must collect the usage history for the past 12 months.
