AboutThrall
Did You Know?
Thrall was founded in 1876 as a railroad town along the International and Great Northern Railroad, named after railroad official Reverend Homer S. Thrall. The town quickly became a vital shipping point for cotton and cattle, with the railroad bringing prosperity and growth to this small Central Texas community during the late 19th century.
In 2020, Thrall completed a major downtown revitalization project that restored several historic buildings along Main Street and added new sidewalks and period lighting. The project has attracted new businesses and helped preserve the town's historic character while preparing for future growth as the Austin metro area continues to expand northward.
Thrall was the childhood home of blues legend Blind Lemon Jefferson, who was born nearby in 1893 and spent his early years in the area. Jefferson became one of the most influential country blues singers of the 1920s, and his recordings like 'Matchbox Blues' and 'See That My Grave Is Kept Clean' influenced countless musicians including Bob Dylan and Led Zeppelin.
Thrall is home to one of the last remaining original International and Great Northern Railroad depots in Texas, built in 1881 and still standing today. The depot now serves as a museum and community center, and railroad enthusiasts travel from across the country to see this remarkably well-preserved piece of Texas railroad history that still contains original ticket windows and waiting benches.
Every October, Thrall hosts the annual Cotton Festival, celebrating the town's agricultural heritage when cotton was king in Central Texas. The festival features a parade of vintage tractors, cotton picking demonstrations using antique equipment, and the crowning of a Cotton Queen, maintaining traditions that date back to the early 1900s when Thrall was surrounded by vast cotton fields.

How to Find the Best Energy Plan in Thrall
#1 rule: Usage is king!
Determining the amount of energy you will consume monthly is the ideal way to find a deal on energy in Thrall. Why should you care?
The rate electricity companies advertise is for an exact monthly usage (typically 1000 kWh).
Every plan has a different equation for how your monthly statement is calculated, and your monthly bill will be determined by how much energy you use in the month.
Unless you match the exact advertised usage each month, you will end up paying an effective "price per kWh" different than the one you saw advertised when you enrolled.
Fortunately, there's a better way to pick your electricity company.
Calculating your total monthly bill based on anticipated monthly usage, then comparing plans by the total monthly bill is the best way to shop for the best rate for your home.
Even better, if you have 12 months of usage history for your household, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between summer and winter months and is the absolute best way to determine your home's ideal electricity rate plan.
Compare Power does all this math for you in an instant. What could take you hours on a spreadsheet is solved briefly.
We put the power in your hands, taking what would amount to hours of investigation, spreadsheets, and calculations across hundreds of plans and navigating you step-by-step to the electricity plan that's best for your home's consumption.
We clarify the details, disclosing all fees, so you'll know exactly where your money is going and what to anticipate on your bill.
We then help you order your plan with your chosen energy provider without leaving our website.
The takeaway here is you must know your expected or historical usage before picking the best electricity plan for your home.
If you don't know your usage, estimate
Suppose you recently purchased a home or business or cannot obtain 12 months usage history. In that case, you can always estimate your average monthly energy usage.
Although knowing the previous 12 months of usage is optimum, it is far better to estimate the average energy consumption than to select the first electricity provider that you see advertised. After all, you have no idea how much energy you will use at that point.
Use Compare Power to shop for the best energy plan for your specific usage.

Acquiring usage for the past 12 months may take effort, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Switching Electricity Companies in Thrall
Switching is good. Market conditions are constantly in flux, so it is essential to shop for a lower rate each year when your contract is about to expire.
Your existing electricity company will typically raise your electricity rate once your term expires. If you do not act, you'll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly higher than the plan you signed up for.
Before renewing your contract, check the rates of competing electricity companies.
Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your energy bill.
Switching is easy:
- You don't have to contact your current company to cancel (no "break-up call")
- No one comes to your home
- There is no disruption in your power supply
- It takes just minutes
When you switch, your new energy company will handle everything, including canceling service with your previous provider.
There is no loss of power when you switch. Electricity in Thrall is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.
The wires and poles that deliver electricity to your home do not change when you switch energy companies. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.
You can pick any date up to 14 days early from your current contract's end date without an "early termination" penalty. Texas law protects you here.
If you're still under contract, find out how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most providers up to 6o days in advance.
And even if you're well inside your contract, savings achieved on your monthly bill by switching companies may outweigh the fee to break your existing contract.
If you're ready to switch and would like to know how to find the best plan remember that knowing your usage is the best way to find the lowest price.
You will want to find your historical usage for the past 12 months to determine the best plan with the lowest rate for your household.
